Manage Websites With Speed Dial

If you are like me, you want to keep FireFox, but you also like Google Chrome's features. One feature that I like is how it shows recently visited web pages. You can imitate this with an add-on for FireFox called Speed Dial. This groups web pages in almost the same way.You can spice up that blank "new tab" page or set it as your homepage. Simply download it from here, Speed Dial , then set up the website lists to what you want and now whenever you open a new tab, it will be there.Another cool thing it does that chrome doesn't do is tell the weather.Though this could you a bit more personalization like a background or something, this is a great solution to all those blank tabs.

Watch Security Camera Streams

Sorry I haven't written in a long time. I've been pretty busy lately.
Anyway, today I'm going to show you a way to get security camera streams on the Internet .Although security cameras are usually private, sometimes you can access public ones that aren't neccessarly for security like views of a construction site or a library. Here is a list of some cams which you can access by googling it:

# inurl:/view.shtml
# intitle:”Live View / – AXIS” | inurl:view/view.shtml^
# inurl:ViewerFrame?Mode=
# inurl:ViewerFrame?Mode=Refresh
# inurl:axis-cgi/jpg
# inurl:view/index.shtml
# inurl:view/view.shtml
# liveapplet
# intitle:”live view” intitle:axis
# intitle:liveapplet
# allintitle:”Network Camera NetworkCamera”
# intitle:axis intitle:”video server”
# intitle:liveapplet inurl:LvAppl
# intitle:”EvoCam” inurl:”webcam.html”
# intitle:”Live NetSnap Cam-Server feed”
# intitle:”Live View / - AXIS 206M”
# intitle:”Live View / - AXIS 206W”
# intitle:”Live View / - AXIS 210″
# inurl:indexFrame.shtml Axis
# intitle:start inurl:cgistart
# intitle:”WJ-NT104 Main Page”
# intitle:snc-z20 inurl:home/
# intitle:snc-cs3 inurl:home/
# intitle:snc-rz30 inurl:home/
# intitle:”sony network camera snc-p1″
# viewnetcam.com
# intitle:”Toshiba Network Camera” user login
# intitle:”i-Catcher Console - Web Monitor”

I have only looked at a few of these, and some may require a password. On some of these cams you can pan and tilt them. If you need to capture a picture of something, when you see what you want, just press the Print Sreen button on the keyboard. It usually looks like this;Prt Scr, and it will be at the upper right hand area.If you want to save the screen shot as a jpg, then just open up paint and paste it in.You can now click File>Save As, and on the bottom of the window it will say Save As Type with a drop down menu with file types.Select the type you want.Well I guess I kinda gave you a bonus trick (how to take a screen shot). :) Have fun!

Google Image Swirl

I really like a lot of google products like gmail, reader, blogger, the list goes on and on.But I found a really neat little thing that they made called Google Image Swirl. It's an image search engine that has a large range of photos and what makes it unique is the way you search for it.As demonstrated in the picture above, it uses a sleek way of grouping or "swirling" the pictures that make it easy to see them all.It is quite handy if you are making a PowerPoint presentation and you need some pictures.

Keyboard and Mouse

Isn't it annoying when you lose a computer mouse or purchase a computer without a keyboard. It is hard to get around your computer without them.Well sometimes you can use keyboard shortcuts when missing a mouse like here , but you know sometimes keyboard shortcuts just don't cut it.Wouldn't it be cool if you could control the mouse with the keyboard? Well, actually you can with MouseKeys which is built in for XP and Vista.Of course I'm not going to explain the whole process here so here is a link to an article that I wrote on wikihow.com : Move the Computer Mouse With the Keyboard

Go on the Internet With XP Calculator!

Yup, that's right. You can go on the computer with the calculator!Whether you just permanently deleted your internet browser or you just want a nifty little skill to impress our friends with, this is a really cool trick.
Note that this can be done with paint or I think notepad on XP only . First, open calculator and click on Help then help topics. After you do that, it should open up the help window for calculator. Now click on the upper left corner of the window where it says "Calculator" and it will open a menu that lists "close, minimize" etc. ,(as displayed in the picture above), and at the bottom it should say " go to URL". Click on that and enter in the URL or the address of the website that you want to go, for example: http://www.thequietcomputerguy.blogspot.com . Make sure to include the "http://www" otherwise it will not work.It will then open the website in the same place that it would normally list the help articles.
Remember: This can only be done with XP. :(

How to Chat Using Command Prompt

Hi again and this is spy guy. Last post I told you that I'd teach you how to use command prompt to chat. Now for you beginners out there, command prompt or cmd, is a command-line interface (CLI)which is a mechanism for interacting with a computer operating system or software by typing commands to perform specific tasks. This text-only interface contrasts with the use of a mouse pointer with a graphical user interface (GUI) to click on options, or menus on a text user interface (TUI) to select options.Sometimes you can use cmd to access things that you wouldn't normally be able to access using a GUI. In general, this is a bit harder to use since most of the time you must memorize many commands or have them right in front of you if you are planning on doing a lot of tasks.
Now getting to the point: I'm not going to explain the whole thing on my blog, but I do have a link to an article on wikihow that I wrote.Actually, to tell you the truth, I wouldn't suggest using this method as it requires a great deal of fuss over a small chat box, when you can get a free program on the Internet somewhere. It also requires that both computers are on the same network, so I'd say this is just a geeky skill that might just come in handy some day.You never know.Anyway here's the link: Chat With Command Prompt
